Looks like it's a long-eared owl (latin: asio otus)

Found this guy (or girl?) half-asleep on a tree by a busy post office, quite deep in the city, which is probably not too normal..
I managed to drive home and back with the camera and the bird was still there :)

man, what soft, perfect lighting! its almost like the photo was setup in a studio or something. love it!

it kind of is, I had enough time to set up the flash and figure out the power, so that it balances with ambient light :) so you can say there's a directional key light from the right and a giant soft box (the sky) for fill ;)

btw, I learn how to light at strobist.com - lots of fun!
